HAMILTON DEFENDING SHIELD (By Telegraph.—specrai to Times) AUCKLAND, Tuesday Play in the 'northern section of the North Island primary schools’ Soccer tournament for the Fordham Shield i and Balfour Irvine Cup opened to- i day. Six senior and three junior j teams are competing, and play was 1 of a good standard. Hamilton, holder of the Fordham Shield, found conditions rather strange in the opening game, but improved in the second series played after lunch. Two series of matches will be played today, and the tourney will conclude tomorrow with another round in the morning, followed by a representative match between an Auckland eleven and a side from South Auckland. The results of the morning games were as follows:—City, 4, Kowhai, 0: Normal, 4, Hamilton, 0; North Auckland, 3, Western Suburbs. 1. The afternoon games resulted as follows:—Normal, 1, Western Suburbs, 0; City, 1, Hamilton. 0; North Auckland won by default from Kowhai.
