KING AND TROOPS
INSPECTION OF COMMAND MEMORABLE STAND RECALLED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 18 The King yesterday inspected troops of the Southern Command. He 'talked at length with the officer, two non-commissioned officers and seven men who were the sole survivors of a battalion of the King’s Royal Rife Corps after their memorable stand at Calais. The battalion has now been reformed and ful'y trained. The King visited a Guards Brigade and watched training varying from machine-gun practice to a mimic battle, in which “ Molotoff cocktails ” were used. At one point His Majesty took the salute at a march-past of Irish Guards. Afterwards he watched a battalion demonstrate the rapidity with which troops could get on the move in motor transport.
