NINTH DUKE

STANDING AT TE RAPA WELL-BALANCED PEDIGREE The imported Blandford horse, Ninth Duke, who is standing the season at Malcolm Bros’ stud, Te Rapa, has much to commend him to breeders and there should be animated demand for his services. By Blandford, head of the English sire’s list in 1934, 1935 and 1938, he is directly descended from a full sister to the famous Pretty Polly, winner of the Thousand Guineas, Oaks and St. Leger and £37,327. This family has been well to the fore in recent years and includes Donatello II (by a son of Blandford), unbeaten at two and three years in Italy, and winner of the Italian Derby. He is, incidentally, standing at the stud in England with a full book to 1941. King John (imp.), winner of the Irish De;oy, and a successful sire, and sire of the good performer, Gold Rod,

A versatile performer himself both in France and England, Ninth Duke has a beautifully balanced pedigree, carrying three strains of the staying Isonomy (sire of the triple Crown winners, Isinglass and Common) blood and two strains of the famous St. Simon blood through the noted channels of La Fleche and St. Frusquin. He is a handsome horse favouring the Blandford type and is suitably bred to mate with mares of most New Zealand strains
