FAREWELL 10 NURSES

PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE PRESENTATIONS MADE Bowls of yellow jasmine and almond blossom arranged in charming ( profusion in the Winter Show Hall yesterday afternoon, created a happy springlike atmosphere for the farewell tendered by the Hamilton Women’s Patriotic Committee, to Sisters R. L. Barlow, F. M. Clayton-Greene, R. Fannin and H. Livingston, who are leaving with the thirej echelon for overseas service. The appreciation felt for the services these nurses j are rendering to their country, was amply illustrated by the large and representative attendance, which gathered to do them honour. Songs by Mrs E. Wood and Mrs Colin Wilson, and elocutionary items by Miss Marie Prendergast, were much appreciated, and were followed by a short speech by the Mayor, Mr H. D. Caro, who was introduced by Mrs H. Ross. “We cannot allow these nurses to leave Hamilton without some expression of our good wishes for their future,” said Mr Caro, in making the presentation to each of the nurses of a leather bag from the Hamilton Women’s Patriotic Committee. “I trust they will have as good a time as possible and we all hope and pray that they will soon re--turn to God’s Own Country.” He remarked on the pride Hamilton felt in the fact that they were all trained at the Waikato Hospital, and concluded by expressing regret that Sisters Fannin and Livingston were unable to personally receive their gifts. Sister Clayton-Greene suit- j ably responded on behalf of her colleagues. The guests-of-honour and Miss E. Jenkins, sub-matron of the Waikato Hospital, who will shortly take up

the position of matron of the Tauranga Hospital, were the recipients of charming posies.
