ARRIVAL AT NASSAU GIVEN GREAT WELCOME ALLEGIANCE TO THE KING (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) NASSAU, Aug. 17 The Duke and Duchess of Windsor were welcomed to Nassau by a huge cheering crowd. The Duke stood at attention while the National Anthem was played and he received a Royal Salute. He was sworn in as Governor of the Bahamas when he took the following oath: “ I, Edward, swear that I will well and truly serve His Majesty the King.” The oath was administered by the Chief Justice, Mr O. B. Daly, K.C. Mrs W. L. Heape, wife of the act-ing-Govemor, introduced the wives of officials. The Duke, in a brief response, thanked the assembly for the cordial reception and said he hoped that with his past experience ind the cooperation of the people, his task would not prove over-formidable. The audience in the Legislative Chamber cheered. After the ceremonies the Duke went on to the balcony and waved to the cheering crowd. He then drove to Government House along a street lined with people. Thousands of people gathered round Government House and cheered, and in response the Duke appeared at a window.
