CLAIMS BY GERMANY IMPORTANT WORKS DAMAGED Tj-BOAT SINKS SHIPPING (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 19, 3.15 p.m.) BERLIN. August 18 The High Command states: Our air force yesterday continued reconnaissance flights and bombing attacks over England, successfully attacking motor works at Filton, aircraft works at Birmingham, industrial works at Reading, and harbour works at Swansea, Avonmouth and Bournemouth. British planes penetrated Western and Central Germany, also Belgium, hitting residential quarters in several places, including Dortmund. A number of civilians were killed or injured. Four people were killed and 22 injured in an air attack on Brussels. Our night chasers and anti-aircraft defences shot down five British planes last night. One of ours is missing. The enemy on August 16 lost 92 planes, A U-boat reports sinking 32,300 tons of merchant shipping. The minelaying of British ports continues.
