AMERICA’S PERIL
MENACE OF NAZIS RELIANCE ON BRITAIN “LULLABY OF DEATH ” (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlg-lit) (Received August 19, 11 a.m.) PHILADELPHIA, August 18 Mr W. Bullitt, in a speech, said the United States stands in peril of a Nazi attack today just as great as France did last year, and unless she acts decisively it will be too late. Mr Bullitt said the words “Atlantic Ocean” were in danger of proving a soothing lullaby of death, like the words “Maginot Line” did for France if the British Fleet were defeated. He urged Americans to heed the advice of General Pershing, Admiral Standley and others, advocating conscription and the transfer of destroyers to Britain. He said that arguments over the aircraft policy in France once resulted in France producing only 37 planes monthly, compared with Germany’s 1000 a month. He alleged that French Communists acted as spies and agents for the dictators.
