WAGES ORDER

CLAIMS FOR EXEMPTION SEVERAL BODIES APPLY WORK AHEAD OF COURT (By Telegrapn.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Monday Toward the end of the week the Arbitration Court will commence the hearing in Wellington of applications for exemption from the general order increasing rates of pay by 5 per cent. At present the list of applications is provisional only, but it is known that representations will be made to the Court by the New Zealand master bakers’ organisation, the award for whose employees dates back to 1938, and by employers who are parties to the New Zealand storemen and packers’ award, the New Zealand motor and horse drivers’ award, part two (licensed transport services), and the New Zealand taxidrivers’ award. The three lastnamed awards have all been made in recent months. Food and Accommodation Application is also likely to be made to the Court for exemption in respect of certain clerical workers, as well as certain sections of employees whose awards allow for the provision of food and accommodation. In several cases a formal application for exemption will require to be made because of agreements entered into in anticipation of the general order. The Court is due to sit at Auckland on September 6. Whether sittings. at Palmerston North and New Plymouth will be possible before that date, as originally intended, depends upon the number of applications for exemption .to be disposed of in Wellington.
