PERSONAL

The Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, and the General Manager of Railways, Mr E. Casey, visited the mobilisation camp at Hopu Hopu today in order to inspect the special units of the Railway Group of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force. They left later for Rotorua, where the Minister will inspect sawmills in the district. Tomorrow the party will proceed to Chateau Tohgariro before returning to Wellington.

Mr C. Clark, Chief Postmaster at Hamilton, is on furlough. Mr C. E. Brian, of the G.P.0., Wellington, is relieving him.

Mr G. T. Simpson, sub-manager of the Bank of New Zealand in Auckland, has been appointed an inspecting officer of the bank.

Mr L. G. Michaels, formerly manager of the Civic Theatre at Hamilton and more recently holding a similar position at Whangarei, has gone into military camp in an instructional position.

Mr F. McGovern, who has been chief clerk for the last eight years at the Christchurch district railway engineer’s office, has been promoted to the position of chief clerk at headquarters of the engineers’ branch, Wellington, replacing Mr W. B. Lee, who will retire on superannuation after 40 years’ service.
