80LDIERS FAREWELLED The Raglan Town Hall was filled to capacity when opportunity was taken to honour Raglan members of the third echelon, Lance-Bombardier lan Thomson, Privates Guthrie, Tait, Albert Bates and Ron Howe. The function took the form of a social and dance, items being rendered by Mrs Cowley, Misses L. Mclvor, E. White and Mr Sanderson. Music for dancing was kindly supplied by Mesdames C. Hird, E. Galvan. Messrs B. Bank, Jackson Brothers and Gilmour Brothers. Accompaniments -were played by Misses D. Kenah. A. Guildford and Mr Donn. During the evening, a charming posy was presented to Mrs A. Bates, who had been married two days before to Private A. Bates. Shortly before supper, the president of the patriotic committee, Mr W. R. Moore, expressed the good wishes of all for their safe return. Other speakers were Mr F. Hardy, president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Mr V. Pegler, Old Citizens’ Association, Mr C. H. Marcroft, Ratepayers’ Association, the Rev. B. Oxenbridge and the Rev. I. Flower. A gift w r as handed to each soldier, Lance-Bomb. Thomson returning thanks on behalf of the men. PRE-WEDDING PARTY A very pleasant afternoon was held recently, in the Parish Hall. Raglan, when friends of Miss Betty Bray met to wish her happiness on the eve of her wedding to Private Albert Bates. Items were given,by Miss Maureen Knox, Miss Maisie Jackson and Miss Esma White. A competition was won by the guest-of-honour and she and her mother were presented with bouquets by Mrs G. Thomson and Mrs Oxenbridge. Afternoon tea was served, after which Mrs Oxenbridge expressed the best wishes of the gathering for the bride’s future happiness.
