BRIGHT GAME AT PARK CITY DEFEATS TECHNICAL Bright Rugby was seen at Rugby Park on Saturday in the only game < played at headquarters in the Clarke ( Cup series, when City beat Techni- ■ cal Old Boys by 13 points to 6. The match was open at all times and several fast and spectacular movements were accomplished. The score did not indicate City’s auperiority. Technical held the team to an even break practically throughout in playing to a form well above recent exhibitions. The teams were:— City.—Crump, Sunich, Perkins, , Young, Brighouse, Smith, Dobson. Dowling, Scott, Spiro, Barr, Keen, , Johnson, Keen, Elvey. Technical.— McGrail, Simpson. Sykes, Nisbet, Barry, S. Houghton. E. R. Houghton, Lye, Snell, Warren. Kemp, Fraser, Flannagan, Patterson, Morgan. The attack swung from onfe advantage to the other early in the game. Johnson attempted an ambitious kick at goal for City and, although the attempt was a commendable one, it failed. Attacks Prevented With the breakaway forwards racing around the scrum in a flash. Technical stiffled nearly every City attempt to launch an attack. When Technical backs secured possession after eight minutes of play Sykes cut through brilliantly to push City hard on the defence. Perkins, with the ball at toe, took advantage of a Technical dropped pass to relieve the pressure. The City backs swung into action and pierced right through to Technical s line. Technical forced down but City maintained the attack. Crump made a poor attempt to kick a penalty goal and another City thrust ended with the ball going out of touch in goal. When right on the line on a subsequent occasion, City infringed and was repulsed by a splendid kick by McGrail. Technical turned the tables for a while and appeared likely to score but after 35 minutes of play City attacked again. Kemp infringed and Crump kicked a penalty goal for , City.—City 3, Technical 0. . i Rallying well, Technical disor- | ganised the defence and rattled an attack. Out of a rucking charge. Nisbet came through with possession of the ball to score. McGrail’s kick just failed. —Technical 3, City 3. The game was moving spectacularly from one end of the field to the other. City was soon back on the attack and as the team bore down on Technical’s line, Scott kicked a brilliant field goal.—City 7, Technical ! 3. Speedy Try to City Technical flashed to the offensive from the outset of the second spell, but McGrail missed an easy chance to goal from a penalty kick. After fast central play from which both teams found difficulty in establishing an advantage, City broke away. Spiro kicked into an opening and as the ball was bouncing amidst a melee of forwards Smith flashed through and outsped the defence to score a runaway try. Johnson's kick failed. —City 10, Technical 3. At this stage Mr A. Paterson retired from control of the game as a result of a lameness and Mr H. R. Bishop became referee. When Nisbet followed up rapidly and caught Young in possession, the way was paved for a likely move- j ment which was developed by Morgan and Snell, the former beating Crump for the touch down to score j for Technical. Warren failed to j convert. —City 10, Technical 6. Another ambitious free kick at j goal was attempted by Johnson shortly afterwards but it was a poor effort. Technical, securing more of the ball, was making the most of | the attack near the end of the game, j When City turned the tables, how- ! ever, Technical infringed and Crump kicked a fine penalty goal.—City | 13, Technical 6. City maintained the offensive. Barry just forced down in time, then Perkins failed to shoot a field goal. The game ended with the score still— City 13 Technical 6
