CLIPPER’S RETURN

FAST FLIGHT TO NOUMEA TASMAN AIRCRAFT PASS (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Monday I Fast time was made by the Cali- 1 fornia Clipper on the 1122-mile journey to Noumea, the first stage of the return flight to San Francisco. Commanded by Captain W. A. Cluthe, the machine rose from the Waitemata Harbour at 7.30 o’clock yesterday morning and. assisted by a steady easterly wind, arrived at Noumea at 2.54 p.m.. New Zealand time. Among those on board were Mr Harold Gattv, New Zealand representative of Pan American Airways, who was travelling as far as Noumea, Mr W. I. Van Dusen, public relations officer of the company, and Mr Ward Moorhouse, columnist and travel writer of the New York Times, who was a member of the party of American journalists who arrived by the Clipper on Friday. Ten American newspapermen were passengers on the Aotearoa, which made a special flight to Sydney yesterday. Accompanying them was Mr L. G. Wigmore, a representative of the Australian Government, who met the party at Auckland. The Aotearoa took off from Auck-

land at six o’clock yesterday morning and landed at Sydney at 2.24 p.m., New Zealand time. The other Tasman flying-boat, the Awarua, was passed at a distance of 40 miles in mid-Tasman.
