WEDDINGS

AIK IN—NICHOLSON ANGELSKIN LACE GOWN The marriage was solemnised at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Claudelands, on the afternoon of Saturday, August 3. between Marie Adela, only daughter of Mr and Mrs F. T. Nicholson, of Orini, and Edwin James, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. Aikin, of Orini. The Rev. R. P. Steele, of Ngaruawahia, was the officiating minister, and Mr E. H. Apthorp presided at the organ. During the ceremony Mrs P. Clemmett, cousin of the bride, sang an appropriate solo. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a graceful gown of magnolia angelskin lace ever satin, fashioned on classical lines. r ihe full skirt fell softly to form an oval train which was edged with tulle and the gathered bodice featured a V-shaped neckline with built-up sleeves, finishing in points over the hands. A filmy tulle veil was held in place with a coronet of orange blossom and she carried a sheaf of white lilies and heather. In attendance as bridesmaid was Miss Madge Owen, cousin of the bride, who was wearing a frock of powder blue taffeta cut on similar lines to that of the bride, with a headdress to tone. She carried a bouquet of lilies. Mr Keith Aikin, brother of the bridegroom, was the best man. The Reception After the ceremony a reception was held at the Centreway Rooms, which had been arranged with bowls of Iceland poppies. Mrs Nicholson received the guests wearing a smart green coat with black accessories and furs. She carried a posy of daphne and violets. The bridegroom’s mother was wearing a navy pin-striped costume with navy accessories and furs. Her posy was composed of freesias, jonquils and violets. The bride travelled wearing a frock of foxglove pink with a blue coat and toning hat and accessories.

Mr and Mrs E. J. Aikin will make their home in Orini.

BATES—BRAY A quiet wedding took place at St Peter’s Church, Raglan, on Wednesday, August 7, when Betty Kathleen, youngest daughter of Mrs Bray, and the late Mr T. F. Bray, of Raglan, was married to Private Albert Bates, third echelon, youngest son of ’Mr and Mrs D. H. Bates, Raglan. The Rev. B. Oxenbridge performed the ceremony and Mrs M. Thompson presided at the organ. The bride, who was given away by Mr F. G. Turner, of Frankton, were a clover angora suit with brown accessories, and she carried a posy of miniature magnolias and primroses. She was attended by Mrs W. H. Bates, as matron-of-honour, who wore a navy pin striped costume with furs and accessories to match. She carried a posy of cinerarias. Mr W. H. Bates was best man. A reception was held at the Dixieland Cabaret, Mrs Bray receiving the guests in a navy costume and hat. She was assisted by Mrs D. H. Bates, who was wearing a black floral trimmed ensemble.
