DOMINION TROOPS
LONELINESS IN ENGLAND LONDON PAPER’S SUGGESTION (United Tress Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, Aug 16 “Not sufficient is being done to entertain Dominion troops in London,” says the Daily Telegraph, which points out that to Australians the 12,000-mile journey is a great adventure, after which they hope for friendly contacts. “ Not every Australian yearns to spend his leave in visiting St. Paul’s and the Tower, or formally taking tea,” the paper adds. “ He wants to meet people, to dance, to see shows and films, to talk about himself and his family, and generally to enjoy himself. The extent to which he fails in this can be measured by the number of Dominion troops walking about the streets, lonely and rather bored.
“ Thousands of English people, if encouraged by Australia House and other Dominions’ representatives to ( do so, would be glad to list their names in order to offer these men companionship and informal hospitality. The experiment would be worth trying.”
