FEDERAL ELECTIONS

POSITION IN AUSTRALIA Z NEW PARTY EMERGING LABOUR RANKS DIVIDED United Press assn.—kloc. Tel. Copyright) (Received August 17, 3.15 p.m.) SYDNEY, August 17 With a Federal election in the offing, the possibility of a new political party emerging from the move to encourage the best men in the community to enter Federal politics to assist in winning the war is being discussed by prominent yion-Parlia-mentary supporters of Federal and State Governments. It is felt in some quarters that there is need for new blood in Parliament. There has been some agitation for reconstitution in the Federal Cabinet to bring in leading business men from outside Parliament, but this suggestion is strongly opposed by members of Parliament. Three Rival Labour Groups As a result of developments at a meeting of the State Australian Labour Party executive, there will probably be three rival sets of Labour candidates at the Federal elections. Candidates will represent the Official Labour Party led by Mr J. Curtin, the Australian Labour Party (non-Communist), led by Mr J. Lang and Mr Beasley, and the Militant Labour Party led by Messrs J. R. Hughes and W. Evans, of the New South Wales Labour Party executive, which was recently suspended by the Federal executive.
