KILLED IN ENGLAND
CRICKETER-POLITICIAN
LIEUTENANT P. ECKERSLEY (United Press Assn.— Elec. Tel. Copyrigtot) LONDON, Aug. 14 Lieutenant P. T. Eckersley, M.P. for the Exchange Division of Manchester and formerly captain of the Lancashire County cricket eleven, was killed yesterday. He was serving in the Air Division of the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
Lieutenant Eckersley, who was born in 1904, captained the Lancashire eleven from 1929 to 1935, and led the county against the New Zealand team of 1931 in a high-scoring drawn match at the Sigburth ground, Liverpool. He entered Parliament in 1935, and susequently retired from first-class cricket.
