GERMAN UNTRUTHS

RELATIVE LOSSES OF PLANES 69 RAIDERS SHOT DOWN (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 13 It is understood that between 500 and 600 German planes were engaged in the air battles throughout the day. Twenty-seven German planes were destroyed at Portsmouth, and 17 Germans were shot down during the day’s last raid off the Kentish coast, when 50 enemy bombers and 150 fighters took part in the action. It is pointed out in London that the German High Command, in reporting the air battles of August 8, 11 and 12, admitted the loss of only 55 machines, whereas the actual figure was 187. Similarly the Germans claim the destruction of 234 British machines. The correct figure is 55. It is officially stated that the total of German planes shot down was 69. Eleven British fighters are missing but five pilots were saved. About 500 enemy aircraft were engaged.
