FIFTH COLUMN CATS
BREACH OF REGULATIONS PROSECUTIONS IN ENGLAND (United Pro»s Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 13 “Fifth Column” cats, whose mischievousness caused breaches of blackout regulations, led their owners to police courts on the same day. The wife of a man accused of showing a light said that the cat frequently and deliberately turned on the light. It was sitting under the switch when the A.R.P. inspector called. The magistrate said that the cat was obviously a Fifth Columnist and defendant had better be careful. The other defendant said that, to comply with the lighting rules, she had had wooden shutters made for the windows. When she went out the cat opened the shutter and the light showed. Nominal fines were imposed in both cases.
