LA BOCA SURPRISES DIVIDEND ON THE FLAT (By Telegraph.—Press. Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Tuesday The Canterbury Jockey Club’s Grand National Carnival opened at Riccarton to-day in dull but fine weather before a large attendance. The track was in good order despite overnight rain. Clarion Call joined the select band of jumpers who have won the Grand National Steeplechase on more than one occasion when he repeated his achievement of 1938, winning very decisively from Slayer, who made a determined bid over the last round.
