SPICED FRUIT CAKE Ingredients: Two cups selfraising flour, pinch of salt, $ cup butter, £ cup sugar, £ cup milk, two apples, one teaspoon powdered cinnamon with £ cup sugar. Method: Rub butter into sifted flour and salt, add sugar, moisten with milk, and spread mixture in buttered seven-inch sandwich pan. Cover with peeled, cored, quartered apples, pressing fruit into mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar and bake in moderately hot oven for \ hour. Serve as hot dessert with custard or lemon sauce, or cold as cake.
