FIGHTING IN ABYSSINIA OCCUPATION OF POSITION (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) LONDON, August 10 A communique issued from Nairobi, Kenya, states: “British ground forces on Friday, without loss, occupied Korindil after slight opposition. Korindil is in Abyssinia, about 75 miles north-east of the northernmost point of Lake Rudolf.” Dealing with air operations in British Somaliland, the Royal Air Force communique issued in Cairo on Saturday states: “Our bombers in East Africa attacked a position at Hargeisa and the Turbargan road, after a reconnaissance had been carried out by French pilots accompanying the Royal Air Force.” An earlier Royal Air Force communique states: “A small formation of Italian bombers raided Berbera on Thursday. Anti-aircraft batteries damaged one Italian bomber. There were no British casualties.

“Royal Air Force bombers attacked Hargeisa and hit barracks and bungalows believed to contain troops.

“South African bombers raided the frontier post of Elwak.”

A total of 135 Italian aeroplanes has been definitely shot down since June 10 and 65 others are believed to have been destroyed. A Royal Air Force communique from Cairo states: “Yesterday we bombed shipping in Tobruk harbour, setting fire to a ship. All our aeroplanes returned. “We also bombed anti-aircraft positions and troops in the Karin Pass area. An anti-aircraft battery is believed to have been hit. “Direct hits were registered on buildings near the air force barracks at Massawa. Our aeroplanes returned undamaged. A bomb fell near a floating dock during another raid. “We raided a fuel dump near Gura and shot down an Italian fighter. All our aircraft returned. “The South African Air Force bombed Neghelli, destroying two Italian bombers on the ground, damaging two others and setting fire to lorries. Direct hits were also scored on buildings and a machine-gun post was destroyed.”
