SOLDIERS FAREWELLED
OTOROHANGA FUNCTION The Otorohanga Town Hall was crowded recently on the occasion of the civic farewell ball to the Third Echelon soldiers of the town and district. The hall was decorated with patriotic colours and greenery. There were about 200 dancers, Mr F. W. Fairbrother being the principal master of ceremonies. Dance music was played by the Kay Walker orchestra, from Te Awamutu.
During an interval the men on leave were introduced to those present by Mr Fairbrother and were addressed by Major H. S. S. Westmacott, 0.8. E., president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association, Mr F. O. R. Phillips, chairman of the Town Board, Mr H. C. Grierson, representing the Otorohanga County Council, and Mr G. W. L. Palmer, president of the local rifle club.
On behalf of the donors, Mrs Westmacott presented each man with a “holdall,” containing shaving outfits, etc., and Mr Palmer made presentations to those who had been members of the rifle club.
