ASSOCIATION FOOTBALL

WANDERERS SIX=GOAL WIN

RENOWN FAILS TO SCORE In the Association football game at Seddon Park on Saturday Wanderers defeated Renown by six goals to nil. The ground, which was very sodden, was cutting up badly towards the end of the match. The teams were:— Wanderers: Webster, C. Crabb, McLean (2), Larsen, Gurnell, Bullock, Tait, Hall, South, Morris. Renown: Sankey, Slaughter, Swinbourn, Twist, Lindores, Hedley, Marshall, Williamson, Davies, McLuckie, Tansey. From the outset it was evident that Wanderers was superior and after about five minutes’ play, Hall succeeded in beating the Renown goalie with a fast shot. Wanderers 1, Renown 0. Play for the next 15 minutes was ragged, with territorial advantage in favour of Wanderers. The local team increased its lead when Hall finished off a good passing movement with a fine goal. Wanderers 2, Renown 0. Renown took the initiative for a while but the Wanderers goalkeeper, Webster, proved equal to the occasion, frustrating all movements. Half-time came without further change in the score. The second half opened leisurely, the wet conditions hindering most of the players. Renown had a little the better of the first few minutes and was unlucky in not scoring on one occasion. Maintaining the advantage. Lindores and McLuckie were prominent in solo dashes. Renown’s play had considerably improved. McLuckie then shot for goal, his kick missing by the narrowest of margins, the goalie punching clear. Wanderers swept to attack, and only a good save by Sankey, prevented Renown from being three down. Again Renown, attacked, but its shooting was erratic, and Wanderers cleared. Wanderers made sure of its win, however, when Hall brought his own. and his team’s score to three, by heading a crosskick into the net. Wanderers again scored a little later, and the scorer this time was Tait. The tally was brought to five—nil when Tait netted once more, and Wanderers went on to a six-nil victory when South netted. Mr N. Swinbourne was referee. Intermediate matches resulted: — Wanderers 1, Rovers 0; Technical A 9, Technical B 1.
