AMATEUR WRESTLING
PROVINCIAL TITLES NO WAIKATO SUCCESSES Three amateur wrestlers from Hamilton and two from Tauwhare were among the competitors at the Auckland provincial amateur wrestling championships at Auckland on Saturday. No titles were secured by Waikato competitors, but nevertheless they gave good exhibitions in matches which were keenly contested. H Shattock, of Hamilton, gained considerable success in reaching the final for the middle-weight title. In the first match in this class Shattock beat G. White by one fall. In his second match he was defeated by S. Gerlach and in the final went down to V. Aspin. Gerlach was the runner-up for the title, which Aspin won. In the welter-weight series A. Lye (Hamilton) and F. Lye (Tauwhare) were competitors. The former was beaten twice by one fall in each match. F. Lye lost his first match on points and lost the second by one fall. H. Fitzpatrick (Hamilton) competed in the light-weight title, losing one bout on points and the other by one fall. R. Lye (Tauwhare) reached the finals of the featherweight champioship. He beat B. Waugh by one fall in the first match, beat C. Hammond on points in the second bout, but lost to L. Hawkins in the third. In one of the finals he lost to C. Croucher on points. The championship winners were as follows:—Heavy-weight, H. Way (Y.M.C.A.); light-heavy-weight, S. Kemp (Awhitu); middle-weight, V. Aspin (Awhitu); welter-weight, A. Nicoll (Awhitu); light-weight, D. Harding (Lynndale); feather-weight, B. Waugh (Surrey); bantam-weight, T. Harvey (Auckland).
