STARVATION IN BELGIUM RECALLED FOR CONSULTATION UNITED STATES DISCLAIMER (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlg-ht) (Received August 10, 10.50 a.m.) WASHINGTON, August 9 Mr Sumner Welles announced that Mr P. Cudahy, Ambassador to Belgium, who stated in an interview recently that there was starvation in Belgium, has been recalled for consultation. “Mr Cudahy’s interview was given without the authorisation of the State Department,” said Mr Welles, “and the interview violated standing instructions from the State Department. Certain views which Mr Cudahy expressed cannot be construed as representing the Government’s views.” Some quarters expressed the opinion that there is a possibility of further disciplinary action being taken.
