IN BRITISH SOMALILAND CAPTURE OF HARGEISA MANY PLANES DESTROYED (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrlgnt) (Received August 10, 11.20 a.m.) ROME, August 9 A communique states: Italian forces in Somaliland took Hargeisa, in British Somaliland. Italy scored the most important air battle against the British since Italy entered the war over the Egyptian-Cyrenaican frontier. Sixteen Italian pursuit planes, fighting 27 British chasers, sent five British down. Two Italian planes are missing. Italian forces are reported to be surrounding Bohotleh caravansary, a strategic oasis 20 miles from the Ethiopian border, in British Somaliland, and are moving on to the sea towards Berbera, where they are expected to join the converging Italian columns.
