Copyrig-bt) (Receive August 10, 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, August 9 The Admiralty announces that Walrus planes of the Fleet Air Arm, operating from His Majesty’s Australian cruiser Hobart on August 8, dive-bombed on the Italian military headquarters which were recently established at Zeila, in British Somaliland. They damaged the headquarters and also machine-gunned military targets, damaging lorries and staff cars, causing some casualties to the Italian military personnel. The Walrus machines returned undamaged to their ship. Italian planes on August 8 bombed our warships In the Gulf of Aden, flying high and causing no damage and no casualties. Italian Planes Shot Down A message from Cairo this morning states that 15 Italian aeroplanes were shot down in Libya yesterday in the biggest desert battle of the war so far. The British machines were outnumbered by two to one. Two of them failed to return to their base. Frontier Post Raided A Cairo communique announces that South African bombers raided the frontier post of Elwark. Egyptian police leave has been cancelled as a precaution against emergencies.
