FOR PIG IRON
ONEKAKA PLANT GOVERNMENT INVESTIGATION WARTIME PRODUCTION (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Friday The Government is investigating the possibility of making use of the old production plant at the site of the Onekaka iron deposits for the manufacture of pig iron. This was stated by the Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, in an interview The Minister indicated that it might be in the interests of the war effort to spend a certain amount of money on the project. “While it is unlikely that the old plant could be worked economically,” said Mr Sullivan, “it may be in the nation’s interest to incur a certain expenditure to bring it into production as a temporary war measure.”
