FACTORY WAGES
CHEESE MANUFACTURE EXTENDED WORKING WEEK OPERATION FOR YEAR (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday A supplementary Gazette issued today implements the decision of the Industrial Emergency Council as announced by the Minister of Labour, the Hon. P. C. Webb, to enable hours in cheese factories to be extended to 52 weekly. Special wages to be paid for the 52-hour week are:—First assistant, £6 ss; second assistant, £5 17s 6d; third assistant, £5 10s; fourth assistant, £5 5s 6d; engine-driver (first class certificate), £6 ss; enginedriver (second class certificate), £5 18s 6d; all other workers (including firemen and general hands), £5. The cheese factories labour legislation suspension order, under which these special conditions are permitted, will remain operative for 12 months.
