GREAT WAR FUNDS
LAST YEAR'S ADMINISTRATION SUM OF £87,394 IN HAND (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Friday The 25th annual meeting of the National War Funds Council was held yesterday. The meeting was opened by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, and in the absence of Sir Charles Luke through indisposition, Mr L. O. H. Tripp was made chairman. The statement accounts disclosed that the excess of expenditure over income was lower than last year, being £2132. Funds stand at £87,394, which includes trusts of £14,888 which can be expended only in accord with specified conditions. The executive was authorised to expend up to £3OOO for relief of unemployment. Matters affecting patriotic efforts generally were discussed, and the opinion expressed that bodies set up under the 1939 regulations could with advantage utilise the organisation and staff of associations functioning under the War Funds Act of 1914, it being felt that the experience of these committees, their secretaries and staffs gained over a long period would be of great assistance in dealing with requests of the men of the present war. Comment was made on the low administrative expenses, especially considering the varied activities of the council, and a vote of thanks was accorded the secretary, Mr O. H. Dillner, for his services during the year.
