WORKING WITH WILL

FARMERS OF MATAMATA MORE FROM THE LAND (Special to Times) MATAMATA, Friday That Matamata district farmers are working with a will on the production front was made apparent at a meeting of delegates from the various district committees. Reports from all centres indicated that plans for increased production were well in hand, and it was decided to form a central committee of four members to ensure cohesion of activities. Messrs F. C. Bush (convener), A. S. Thirlwall, P. Scherer and M. Bates were appointed. Mr Bush reported that in the Peria district there was a prospective increase of 110 tons of manure, 126 acres of hay and ensilage and 77 acres of root crops. Mr P. Scherer stated that if the help of a bulldozer could be obtained there were 600 acres in the Waharoa district that could be made available for production very quickly. His committee was working on this idea. Reporting from Turanga-o-moana, Mr H. M. Gouk said the pig population was much bigger than last year. Co-operation m all directions had been promised. Returns from four other districts which were represented, were reported to be not yet complete, but the various committees were meeting with a good response from farmers.
