PATRIOTIC COMMITTEE
HAMILTON WOMEN’S BRANCH At a meeting of the Hamilton Women’s Patriotic Committee held last week Mrs H. C. Ross presided over a large attendance of members. Congratulations were extended to the Post and Telegraph departmental officers on the very successful clothes drive which was conducted in aid of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild, also to Mr and Mrs T. Parker and helpers for their very valuable assistance in sorting and packing, the goods. The military authorities had requested the opening of the Soldiers’ Club and their request had been acceded to with very satisfactory results, the members of one platoon of the recently-formed Women’s Auxiliary Volunteer Corps being hostesses last week-end. Votes of thanks were accorded the donors of a piano for raffle, and iced cake, and several ladders for sale. The League of Mothers had been appointed as representing the Women’s Patriotic Committee to visit sick soldiers in hospital and had distributed gifts and comforts, and woollen comforts for guards on vital points had been forwarded through the Defence Department. Congratulations were extended Sister Mac Kay on her appointment as matron of Base Hospital in England, and it was decided to purchase farewell gifts for Hamilton Nursing sisters leaving for overseas. A vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Ellis and Burnand for arranging insurance of the house and furniture in Garden Place.
