GUN SHOTS HEARD
STRUGGLE IN HOUSE MAN AND SON-IN-LAW LATTER APPEARS IN COURT (By Telegrapn.—Press Association) TAURANGA, Tuesday The screaming of children and shots from a gun disturbed residents in Durham Street at seven o’clock last night. Messrs W. Ozfee and Allan Faulkner rushed into the residence of Mr C. F. Mabey and found him struggling in an endeavour to wrest a gun from his son-in-law, Andrew Ferguson. Mr S. Snowden, who lives nearby, also rushed in. Discovering that a struggle had taken place and two shots had been fired from a shotgun, they immediately escorted Ferguson to the police station. Mr Mabey, who is elderly, suffered no injury. In the Police Court this morning Andrew Ferguson appeared before Messrs W. T. Teasey and C. Whiting, J’s.P., charged with discharging a double-barrelled shotgun at Charles Thomas Mabey with intent to do grievous bodily harm, also with presenting a firearm at Mabey. Mr H. O. Cooney appeared for Ferguson. Sergeant Edwards applied for a remand, which was granted, till Friday, August 2.
