SHARP RISE FOR BEEF
VALUES AT FRANKTON HEIFERS MAKE £l3 12s 6d Values for beef showed a sharp rise at the Frankton sale today, prices a head in many instances being the highest since last spring. Extra heavy prime sorts were quoted from £lO 14s to £l3 12s 6d, the latter figure being paid for two heavy Friesian sorts. Other classes were similarly dearer, and the price a 1001 b frequently showed an advance of 2s on last week. Ox beef was also in keen request, but did not show the same steep advance as cow and heifer beef. Heaviest prime bullocks today changed hands from £l4 2s to £ls. A full average entry of fat sheep was in keep demand and values were fully firm on last week's sale. Over the early auctions heavy choice wethers were realising from 34s 6d to 375. A light entry of fat pigs was eagerly sought at prices that represented a slight advance on last week. Quotations —Beef: Extra heavy prime cows and heifers £lO 14s to £l3 12s 6d. heavy prime £9 2s 6d to £lO 10s. lighter prime £7 17s to £8 19s, fat £5 to £6 15s; extra heavy prime bullocks £l4 2s to £ls. heavy prime £l2 10s to £l3 10s. medium £ll 10s to £l2 7s 6d, light £lO 11s to £lO 17s 6d.
