SOLDIER FATALLY HURT PRIVATE FROM BURNHAM (By Telegraph.—Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, Sunday A soldier from Burnham camp was fatally injured when he fell beneath an excursion train at Burnham station about 9.15 tonight. The victim was:— Private L. L. Williams, aged 26, of Temuka, a member of the Third Echelon Private Williams, who had been visiting relatives at Temuka, was stated by a passenger to have attempted to leave the train as it was pulling out of Burnham station on its return to Christchurch. He had a heavy pack on his back and he fell between the step of the carriage and the platform. One of the passengers immediately stopped the train, but the wheels of the last three carriages had passed across Private Williams’ legs. He was rushed to Christchurch, but died soon after admission to hospital. DRIVER KILLED SMALL CAR HITS POLE (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Saturday When a small car collided with a telegraph pole at an intersection in Epsom late this afternoon the driver, Mr Trevor Arthur Howard Kidd, insurance salesman, of Grafton Road, was fatally injured. Death occurred in an ambulance on the way to hospital. A passenger in the car, Mr Donald Francis Cederwall, was not injured. CAR OVERTURNS FIVE OCCUPANTS INJURED (By Telegraph.—Special to Times) AUCKLAND, Monday Five persons were injured when the motor-car in which they were travelling capsized on the PokenoPaeroa highway at Maramarua yesterday. The victims were;— Gilbert Dennis Morgan, a driver, aged 17, of Mount Eden; fracture of the right arm. Miss Bluebelle Edith Fowler, shop assistant, aged 17, of Ponsonby; severe abrasions to the back. Mr Austin Martinson, aged 23, of Green Lane, and Misses Elsie and Molly Drinnan. of Ponsonby, bruises and shock. Morgan, the driver of the car, and Miss Fowler were admitted to the Auckland Hospital, and the condition of each last night was not serious. The other three were taken to their homes. The car turned on its side after skidding in a water-table. It was extensively damaged.
