WEDDINGS
BISHOP—WALLACE MAGNOLIA SATIN GOWN St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Matamata, was the scene of a pretty wedding on June 15 when Elvira Isabel, second daughter of Mr and Mrs A. Wallace, Peria, was married to Cecil Arnold, second son of Mr A. L. Bishop, of Fern Flats, Marton. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. J. H. Combes, and Miss Ann Huston presided at the organ. The bride, who entered the church with her father, wore a lovely gown of magnolia satin cut on princess lines, and featuring a lace yoke and heart-shaped neckline. The fitting sleeves were inset with lace, and the long train was finished with lace godets. A row of tiny buttons fastened the back from neckline to waist. An embroidered veil of tulle, worn over the face, was caught with a spray of magnolia orchids, and a shower bouquet of cream roses, intermingled with maidenhair fern, was carried. The Attendant The bride was attended by her sister, Miss Marjory Wallace, of Peria, Matamata, who wore a dainty frock of blue ripple taffeta, designed with a pointed bodice, puffed sleeves and a full skirt. Small silver bows ornamented the front of the bodice, and a silver lame bow was worn at the back. A top-knot of pink flowers comprised her headdress, and she carried a bouquet of pink and cream carnations and sweetpeas. Mr Eric Bishop was the best man. During the signing of the register, Mrs Combes rendered a solo. Following the ceremony, a reception was held at the Rialto, where the tables had been decorated with Iceland poppies and irises. Mrs A. Wallace, assisted by Mrs A. C. Cameron, sister of the bridegroom, received the guests. The bride’s mother wore a black tailored costume, a black hat and matching accessories. Her bouquet was a scarlet and cream carnations and anemones. Mrs Cameron was attired in a navy tailored costume, a navy and white hat, and accessories to tone. She carried a bouquet of autumn-tinted flowers. When Mr and Mrs C. A. Bishop left on the wedding trip, the bride travelled in a becoming teal frock over which was worn a matching tailored coat, and a navy hat and accessories. FOSTER—THOMPSON The wedding was solemnised in St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Te Awamutu, on Saturday, July 20, by the Rev. J. C. Young between May Winifred, third daughter of Mrs Thompson and the late Mr W. J. Thompson, of Te Rahu, and James,, youngest son of Mr R. Foster and the late Mrs Foster, of Kaipaki. The bride wore a classical gown of cream satin embossed romaine with a train falling from the waistline in an unpressed pleat. The heart-shaped neckline was finished with a necklace of crystals, and she wore a veil held in place with a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of lilies, jonquils and maidenhair fern. In attendance as bridesmaid was Miss Hilda Bourne, wearing green taffeta, slim-fitting frock finished with frills. The flower-girl was little Doreen Foster, niece of the bride, wearing a green georgette frock finished with taffeta frilling She carried a posy of jonquils, anemones and maidenhair fern. Mr Roy Thompson carried out the duties of best man. The bride’s mother wore a black ensemble and accessories, and her posy was of Iceland poppies and maidenhair fern. When Mr and Mrs J. Foster left on their honeymoon, the bride was wearing a clover woollen suit with navy accessories. They will make their home in W aihi.
