NUMBERS IN TRAINING 1695 AT DISTRICT SCHOOLS UNITS AT HOME STATIONS (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WELLINGTON, Saturday Under the scheme of intensive training for the Territorial Force for home defence, 1695 officers and noncommissioned officers are undergoing special training at the district schools of instruction, said the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, today. In addition, three units at full war establishment are undergoing training at their home stations. In the northern military district there are 114 officers and 433 N.C.O.’s in training, drawn from the artillery, 41 officers and 134 N.C.O.’s, engineers 2 and 31, infantry 71 and 268. In the central district, 102 officers and 417 N.C.O.’s, made up of artillery 29 and 108, engineers 4 and 16, infantry 69 and 293. In the southern district, 92 officers and 397 N.C.O.’s, made up of artillery 19 and 80, engineers 4 and 24, infantry 69 and 293. In addition to the above, the Army School at Trentham is training for district signals companies 8 officers and 94 N.C.O.’s, regimental signals 5 and 15, machine-gun companies 10 and 10. Units At Home Stations There are therefore 331 officers and 1364 N.C.O.’s, a total of 1695, in training preparatory to going into camp with the units in October for three months’ intensive training. Mr Jones said the Ist Battalion, Auckland Regiment, the Ist Battalion, Wellington Regiment, and the Ist Battalion, Canterbury Regiment, were at full war establishment and were training at their home stations. The training of these would conclude with a month in camp in September. In addition, coast and anti-aircraft artillery units were also training at full war establishment.
