EUROPEAN HARVEST

A BIG DROP CATASTROPHIC CONDITIONS (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) (Received July 27, 3.15 p.m.) BELGRADE, July 26 The newspaper Politika says this year’s wheat crop will be catastrophic, probably 30 per cent smaller than last year’s. It is expected to produce 200,000 truckloads, whereas 245,000 will be required for home consumption. The shortage of maize is already felt, although Yugoslavia is normally an exporter of maize. Maize reserves have been depleted as the result of the increase in home consumption and also large deliveries to the Axis Powers. Rumanian wheat crops are reported to be 20 per cent smaller than last year's. The poor crop in the Balkans is mostly due to the extensive flooding and a hard winter.
