WHITE FEATHER INSULT
POLICE TO INVESTIGATE (By Telegraph.—Press Association) WAIPAWA, July 24 A new version of the white feather insult has appeared in Hatuma at the expense of a young man who has made repeated but unsuccessful efforts to have his services accepted since the outbreak of the war. A recruiting advertisement from a newspaper with the following unsigned message written across it has been sent to him through the post:—• “1914-1918: Thirty boys from Hatuma fought while your father made a fortune. 1939-1940; His sons won’t light for it.” A handwriting expert of the Post, and Telegraph Department gives it as his opinion that the writing is that of a woman. Mr R. P. Wilder, Wallingford, who has interested himself in the young man’s efforts to serve his country, has handed the communication to the Napier police with the request that inquiries be made.
