WOMEN’S GOLF
CLACHAN ROSE BOWL The two qualifying rounds of the Clachan Rose Bowl were played at the St. Andrews links last Wednesday in fine but very cold weather. A large field of golfers completed both rounds and it was pleasing to see so many juniors among them. Of the 16 players who qualified, Mrs Signal brought in the best cards of nett 76 and 75 to take top place. The next in order were Mrs Brewis with nett 155 and Mrs S. Bennett with nett 159. The last to qualify were all those who carded nett 166.
In conjunction with this event an L.G.U. medal round was also played. In the senior division Mrs Bennett and Mrs Brewis tied for top place with nett 77, Mrs Bennett winning on the count back. In the juniors, Mrs Heather, who played one below her handicap, carried off the trophy. She was followed by Mrs Thomas, Mrs Bindon and Mrs Signal, who all turned in a nett 76. On July 13 the Saturday players played a bogey competition. This was won by Miss Ensor in the seniors and Mrs Whitehouse in the juniors. Three good reductions of handicap have been handed in lately. Mrs Hilton reduced 5 strokes last week, Mrs
Thomas is now on the 23 mark and Mrs Morrison has also reduced 3 strokes. This is satisfying under midwinter conditions. On Monday, August 5, the club is holding an open day in aid of the patriotic funds. Entries close next Wednesday and the secretary will be very pleased to receive entries on that day. The committee confidently expect the club to support this day as generously as they have other days in aid of this fund.
