Heddle Nash and School Singing During the visit of the Celebrity Concert Party to Timaru a visit was paid to the Boys’ High School, and members ot' the party favourably commented on the singing of the boys. The pupils of the school presented
a programme of songs by a choir, an 1 item by the band, including a solo, and songs by the whole school. On behalf of the visitors Mr Heddle * Nash thanked the boys for the *; splendid entertainment, and said that ; the singing was delightful. Schools in 1 England were beginning to take up singing again, and it was being in- • eluded in the curriculum of public 1 and council schools. He especially congratulated the ’ school choir on the way in which it had sun “Finiculi Finicula.” Miss Isobel Baillie and Miss Gladys ' I Ripley also expressed appreciation to the school and were replied to by the head prefect. N.Z. Boy Pianist for Australia Richard Farrell, the Wellington boy pianist, is to leave for Australia early next month to fulfil an engagement with the Tivoli Theatres, Ltd. Dunedin Baritone’s Success Donald Munro, baritone from Dunedin, who has been studying at the Royal College of Music for the past year, has won an Open Scholarship, tenable for three years. He has been studying under Mr Topliss Green, who considers that « the young* New Zealander possesses ! an excellent baritone voice and a fine power of interpretation; also that he j has great capacity for work.
