A total of 8310 persons on mental “ hospital registers at December 31, J 1939, is shown in the annual report i on the mental hospitals of the Dominion. presented in the House of Representatives. There were 7689 I persons actually in residence in the j 1 hospitals, an increase of 217 on the previous year. These included 329 | voluntary boarders. There was an 1 ’ increase of 78 in the number admitted for the first time, while 340 i ex-patients and boarders returned ; for further treatment.
