AUSTRALIANS IN ENGLAND SONG COMPOSER’S OPINION As a gesture to May Brahe, the brilliant Australian composer now visiting Sydney from England, two Younger Feminists sang a group of her songs at the Feminist Club luncheon at Sydney. Miss Brahe in a short address told members that Australians do particularly well in London in every walk of life.
“Your Joan Hammond is going to make a big name for herself as a singer. In London she was regarded as something out of the box,” she said. “The only fault Australians have is that they do not get enough publicity abroad. “A stranger to England would not know that Australia even had a sheep, for neither your lamb nor your butter is branded Australian—they go in as ‘Empire.’ ”
