"PYGMALION” IN BERLIN ELIZA AS GERMAN DUCHESS George Bernard Shaw is the only contemporary British dramatist to have a play produced in Germany since the war began. His “Pygmalion” is being staged in Berlin, but he cannot collect any royalties’ until after the war. Berlin’s suburban accent replaces Eliza Doolittle’s Cockney, but apparently the adapter found no difficulty in transforming her into a German duchess. Commenting on the adapter’s liberties with the text, the f rankfurter Zeitung says: “Shaw stood invisible in the wings and applauded.”
