WOMEN’S INSTITUTES

FENCOURT The Fencourt Women’s Institute held its monthly meeting recently, there being a good attendance, over which Mrs S. D. Low presided. Three new members, Mrs F. H. Anderson, Mrs S. McMillan and Mrs D. McMillan were welcomed by the president. The institute is to take charge of the Red Cross shop in Cambridge, one Friday in January. It was decided to purchase the book “Pioneer Tales” for the library. Members were asked to leave books with Mrs Bear for the soldiers. There will be no meeting in January.

At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs Low presented Mrs Duckerings with a bouquet, in appreciation of her services through the year as judge of the competitions. On behalf of the institute members Mrs Tomsett presented Mrs Low with a bouquet. An interesting competition was won by Mrs M. Leimey. The roll call “A Funny Picture” was judged by popular vote, the winning picture being Mrs W. Johnsons. Competition results were as follows:—Embroidered supper cloth. Mrs Mitchell and Miss E. Burns (equal) 1, Mrs Bear 3. Vegetable salad, Mrs W. Johnson and Mr Tomsett (equal) 1, Mrs W. Cubis 3 Hand bouquet, Mrs Tomsett 1, Mr.Smart 2. The hostesses Mrs J. O'Keefe anri Miss L. Qualtrough, served afternoon tea.
