SMITH—NORRELL PINK LACE GOWN A pretty wedding was solemnised on December 2 at St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church between Ruin, daughter of Mr and Mrs Norrell, of Claudelands, Hamilton, and Selby, eldest son of Mr and Mrs W. Smith, of Motumaoho, Morrinsville. The Rev. H. G. Gilbert was the officiating minister, and Mr Apthorp played the wedding music. The church was beautifully decorated by friends of the bride. The bride, who entered the church on the arm of her father, wore a bridal gown of shell-pink Chantilly lace mounted over satin, the heart-shaped neckline being clipped with pink pearl clips. The very full skirt fell to form a long train which was appliqued at the hemline with pink satin flowers. Her beautiful veil of Brussels net fell in filmy folds from a coronet of pink orange blossom. She carried a shower bouquet of pink carnations, sweet peas, and maidenhair fern. ’Maids in Pink The bride was attended by Miss Gwenda Burrett and Miss Margaret Smith, the bridegroom’s sister. Their frocks of salmon-pink georgette over satin were fashioned with gathered tops on fully-flared skirts, the waistlines being encircled with silver flowers and leaves. They wore circular veils mounted on top-knots of pink flowers and they carried shower bouquets to tone. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr G. Smith, as best man, and Mr W. Mclllwalne as groomsman. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Centreway Tearooms, where charming decorations to tone with the pink colour-scheme had been arranged. To receive the guests the bride’s mother wore an ensemble cf smokeblue relieved with dahlia. She wore a shoulder, spray in pink and dahlia tonings. The mother of the bridegroom wore a navy ensemble with navy accessories and a shoulder spray in deep-red tonings. When Mr and Mrs S. GOODALL—FERRALL IVORY VIENNESE LACE A very quiet wedding was solemnised at the Knox Presbyterian Church, Hamilton, on the evening of Thursday, December 21, when Berna Vaughan, elder daughter of Mrs Ferrall, of Somerset Street, Franktor, was married to Corporal Rupert Henry (Bill), second son of Mr and Mrs Goodall of Ulster Street, Hamilton. The Rev. H. J. Lilburn, was the officiating minister. The bride who entered the church with Mr Ken Davies, wore a graceful gown of ivory Viennese lace cut on Victorian lines, and her beautiful circular veil fell from a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a sheaf of St. Joseph’s lilies. After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of ihe bride’s parent where Mrs Ferrall received the guests wearing a teal wool georgette frock with accessories and hat to tone. The bridegroom’s mother was wearing an ensemble of navy floral crepe faconne with a toning hat and accessories. The bride travelled wearing a rose pink frock with navy hat and accessories. SOLDIERS FAREWELLED
PRESENTATION DANCE Eager to show their appreciation to the men of the first echelon, home on final leave* the people of Cambridge were present in large numbers at the Town Hall on Wednesday night when the ladies of the patriotic committee arranged a farewell presentation dance in honour of Cambridge soldiers who are soon to go overseas. The Mayor of Cambridge, Mr Edgar James, in farewelling the soldiers of whom the borough is so proud, expressed the sentiments of the citizens who wished to honour those among the first to enlist. Mr R. Newcombe, president of the Returned Soldiers’ Association then endorsed the Mayor’s remarks before the Mayoress, Mrs Edgar James, and Miss G .Brann presented every man with a parting gift. Captain T. Wallace, afe behalf of members of the army and air force present, thanked the patriotic committee and others concerned and earned applause by declaring that it was their intention to live up to the tradition New Zealand forces had hitherto created overseas. A patriotic note was dominant in the decorations in which a colour scheme of red, white and blue proved very effective. Everywhere swayed flags and patriotic shields, and strings of coloured lights added to the brilliance of the scene. The dark-blue of delphiniums, the red of geraniums and pure white of Canterbury bells were beautifully combined in the supper-room decorations, bowls of these flowers standing on Union Jacks in the centre of the tables. Mrs H. L. Nixon and Mrs W. Munroe were responsible for the hall decorations and the supper-room decorative scheme had been carried out by # Mrs A. A. Lockett.
