LEASE OF JIBUTI

OFFER BY FRANCE THE ITALIAN GOVERMENT (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright) NEW YORK, Dec. 19 The French Ambassador to Rome M. Andre Francois-Poncet, has returned from Paris. The Rome correspondent of the New York Times says it is reported that M. Francois-Poncet brought an offer from the French Government to lease Jibuti, the port in French Somaliland from which a railway connects Addis Ababa with the Red Sea, for 90 years, and to grant Italy a further concession to Tunis and also a large block of shares in the Suez Canal.

It should be pointed out that there is no ostensible reason why France should not make any proposals now, but M. Francois-Poncet certainly brought some message which it is hoped will further friendly relations.
