Mr J. Crawford, of Hamilton, left to-day on a visit to Patea. Messrs B. Dawson (Auckland) and D. H. Wilson (Wellington) are at the Hamilton Hotel. Mr H. H. E. Knight, of the China Inland Mission, was a visitor to Hamilton yesterday. Mr J. F. Strang, of Hamilton, will leave by the limited express tonight to spend a holiday in Christchurch. Mr H. D. Caro, Mayor of Hamilton, will leave on Saturday to spend a holiday at Ohope Beach. He will return on January 8. Mr Victor C. Jones, general secretary of the Wellington Y.M.C.A., will proceed overseas as a representative of the Y.M.C.A. with the first echelon of the New Zealand Special Force. Lieutenant-Colonel C. J. Pierce, Waikato Mounted Rifles, relinquishes command of the regiment on being seconded for duty with the Special Force, stated a Gazette notice last night.

Mr R. Worley, Hamilton borough engineer, was granted facilities by the Hamilton Borough Council at its meeting last night to attend the annual conference of the New Zealand Institute of Engineers at Wellington from February 20 to 24, 1940.

Mr A. McElwain, who has relinquished the position ol publicity manager ol Theatre Management, Ltd., and has been appointed to the literary staff ol the Sydney Daily Telegraph, was farewelled at Wellington by the council of the Association of New Zealand Advertisers

Mr W. W. Dillicar, of Hamilton, left to-day to spend a holiday at The Mount. Tauranga. Early in the New Year Mr Dillicar will leave for an extensive tour of the North and South Islands. At last night’s meeting of the Hamilton Borough Council he was granted leave of absence from the next three meetings.
