SCOUT DINNER

ST. PETER S TROOP DISTRIBUTION OF PRIZES With a highly successful function last night the St. Peter’s group celebrated its ninth annual birthday dinner. More than 50 scouts, cubs and parents attended, the toastmaster being the committee chairman, Mr H. J. McMullin. District headquarters were represented by the District Commissioner, Mr S. M. Ziman, and the District Scoutmaster, Mr G. I. Clark. Following the loyal toast Mr Ziman proposed the toast to the world Chief Scout, Lord Baden Powell, and in the course of his address briefly outlined scouting’s part in the present emergency. He emphasised the need for the continuance of the movement during the war, and urged the scouts to live up to their motto, and “Be Prepared” to assist in any practical way. “The scout movement,” he concluded, “will play an important part in training the coming generation, on whose shoulders will fall the of world reconstruction in the peace to come.” Prizes were distributed by the commissioner, the following awards being made:— Cubs.—Best all-round Cub: John Menboul; most improved Cub: Warwick Rundle. Scouts. —Best all-round Scout: J. Doole; most improved Scout: R. . Tompkins. j At the conclusion presentations

were made to the cub-mistress, Miss E. Hare, and to the scout-master, Mr C. A. Holloway, the recipients responding suitably.
