ON THE WAY HOME CONFERENCE IN SYDNEY CO-ORDINATION OF DEFENCE (United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyrig-ht) SYDNEY, Dec. 19 The Deputy-Prime Minister of New Zealand, Mr P. Fraser, and his party, including Major-General B. C. Freyberg, who is to command the New Zealand Expeditionary Force, arrived at Sydney to-day from London. Mr Fraser will attend conferences with members of the Australian War Cabinet in Melbourne this week in an endeavour to co-ordinate the defence activities of Australia and New Zealand. Mr Fraser had a brief discussion with the Prime Minister, Mr Menzies, this, afternoon and it was arranged that this discussion should be continued in Melbourne, whither Mr Fraser and Mr Menzies went by tonight’s train. Whatever decisions may be arrived at will necessarily be kept secret, but Mr Menzies indicated before his departure that there was not the slightest doubt that Australia and New Zealand would co-operate closely in arrangements for the despatch of troops overseas and also in connection with the Empire air training scfieme in Canada. The United Kingdom and Dominion ministerial talks have ended and four Ministers have gone home, but left farewells unanimously supporting the war effort.
The Hon. P. Fraser (New Zealand) in a message said: ‘ We are directing our main effort to halting aggression and lawlessness.”
